Alte Freunde is a German TV film by Peter Kahane from 2012. It is the forty-fifth film in the ZDF crime film series Stubbe - Von Fall zu Fall with Wolfgang Stumph in the title role.

action

Commissioner Stubbe and his colleague Zimmermann are investigating the kidnapping of business owner Berthold Hausmann. His wife found a ransom note in the parking lot of his standard jogging track after she went looking for him because he hadn't returned from his morning jog. The perpetrators demand 500,000 euros within the next hour and Susanne Hausmann wants to withdraw this amount from her account. But the bank takes a stand and informs the police, who are now involved in the case against Susanne Hausmann's will. Stubbe accepts the demand, but has the notes marked and the woman observed, who does not want to reveal the place of delivery. Due to the “interference” of the police, Susanne Hausmann was unable to adhere to the specified time window and was delayed by ten minutes. Although the money was picked up, the charred corpse of the kidnapper is found on the same day in the remains of a burnt-down hunter's stand. Hausmann now blames the police for her husband's death.

Forensic and forensic experts are working flat out to get information and a first lead on the perpetrators as quickly as possible. Hausmann's last caller can be identified on the basis of the cell phone that was not completely destroyed. This is Tobias Linde. Stubbe and Zimmermann interview the man who appears to be the complete opposite of a successful businessman. Linde states that he and Hausmann were old friends and had lost sight of each other over the past few years. Only recently had they found each other and met regularly to talk about old times. Stubbe later learns that Linde is a co-owner of Hausmann's company, which now makes him suspicious. But that's not all, when the company was founded, Susanne and Linde were a couple. With this motive, even Linde is clear that he is the number one suspect, but Stubbe cannot discover any hatred in the man during his interviews. Since Hausmann was burned alive, it must have been extremely hateful.

While the investigators are still on the spot and cannot find a starting point for the perpetrator, Susanne Hausmann is broken into. She surprises the perpetrator, who then knocks her down. When she can call for help, the burglar is already over the mountains. Zimmermann thinks it is possible that after her husband, Susanne Hausmann should also be kidnapped. However, Stubbe doubts whether they are dealing with a kidnapping at all. When he finds out that the Hausmanns marriage was far less harmonious than Susanne Hausmann had described it, she remains in the inspector's sights. After his introduction, he recreates the events on the day of the kidnapping and death of Hausmann and, with all the details determined so far, finds ways how Susanne Hausmann could have done this. Since she had shaken off the vehicle she was observing when handing over the money, there was enough time for her to drive to the high stand and set it on fire. Still, Stubbe cannot prove any of this. He tries to get Linde to help him set a trap for Susanne Hausmann - for the love of his old friend. On the pretext that Hausmann has deposited a USB stick with him, which can be used to prove that his wife tried to take the company away from him, he lures her over and demands an additional million euros. Susanne Hausmann immediately drives to Linde and gives him all the jewelry she has, because the burglar stole the ransom from her. However, he also demands a written confession as security for the missing balance. In an unobserved moment, she puts anesthetic on his drinking glass. When she tries to throw the unconscious Linde out the window, Stubbe arrests her.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv found the film to be “technically solid.” “Dramaturgically, on the other hand, this story has clear weaknesses.” He was impressed by “two top-class 'guest actors', Jeanette Hain and Roeland Wiesnekker, and a […] production that looks for the faces of these two exceptional actors and literally cuts them out of their surroundings. They put a secret in the pictures and ensure that the well-photographed ninety-minute film does not run out of air in terms of atmosphere. "

At Der Tagesspiegel , Thomas Geringer rated: Even if “the popular ZDF series” is “coming to an end”, the new case is “impressive”. Because “with tension, psychological abysses and a top-class cast” he scores exceptionally well. “Unfortunately, as is usual in German crime novels, sometimes a lot is explained instead of enlightened.” But that only seems to be a negative point for the critic.

Renatus Töpke at quotenmeter.de stated: "Under the experienced direction of Peter Kahane, the latest case is developing into a highlight." As a screenwriter, he also guides the actors through the story "tightly and excitingly". “Thanks to the great cast down to the last link and the clear and atmospheric camera work by cameraman Andreas Köfer and his head lighting technician Stefan Herrmann, 'Stubbe - Alte Freunde' entertains from the first to the last minute.” “It's also the fine breeze of humor between Stubbe and Colleague Zimmermann, who repeatedly gives the television film a boost and, with wit and the charm of its protagonists, lifts it above the average of the television unit price. "Only the" unnecessary "side story about Charlotte was, in his opinion," rather annoying and annoying. "

For the critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm , Alte Freunde was a “cruel case - with 'signs of age'” and gave the film the best possible rating (thumbs up).
