On thin ice is a German television film by Jörg Grünler from 2008. It is the thirty-fourth film in the ZDF crime film series Stubbe - Von Fall zu Fall with Wolfgang Stumph in the title role.

action

In a bank robbery in Hamburg-Uhlenhorst , the masked robber steals 80,000 euros and kills a customer. A bank employee is also seriously injured. The commissioners Stubbe and Zimmermann are informed and meet the head of the robbery department Matthias Gerber at the scene, who has to work with the detectives in this case. Gerber is not very pleased about this and sees a similarity to earlier cases. However, Stubbe has doubts that it is a serial offender. Not only was the use of firearms new, some other details did not fit in with the past attacks. In addition, after looking through the surveillance tapes, Stubbe is convinced that the bank clerk Britta Kilian recognized the perpetrator and therefore shot her. After analyzing the circumstances of the attack, Stubbe and Zimmermann consider it very likely that the perpetrator is an insider and possibly an employee of the bank himself. This was the only way he could know that there was a lot of money in the till that day and that some employees had been absent due to illness. Before that, there was even a security course on how to behave in the event of a bank robbery, so that the perpetrator might know what to look out for in order not to give himself away. However, Stubbe and Zimmermann think it is not impossible that their colleague Gerber is hiding something from them. After he shot a 14-year-old boy in action two years ago and quit his job with the SEK, he behaved more than suspiciously towards his new colleagues. Again and again he withholds information and he also knew the bank from the training. He had done it himself because he works as a second job for a security company to work off the debts he has had since building his own home. Stubbe deliberately provokes Gerber in order to lure him from his reserve. But he fails to recognize the man, because his past means that Gerber is only overzealous to never allow mistakes to be made again in the service.

So the bank clerk Werner Hofstetter gets in the sights of the investigators. He was very worried about his injured colleague and Stubbe now suspects why. Britta Kilian had actually recognized Hofstetter, but because she had been secretly in love with him for years, she had not betrayed him. When Hofstetter tries to visit her in the hospital, the officers arrest him.
