Swobodnoje ( Russian Свободное , German Alsnienen , 1934–1947 also: Wolmen West ) is a small town in the Russian Oblast Kaliningrad ( Koenigsberg region (Prussia) ) and belongs to the Domnowskoje selskoje posselenije (rural community Domnowo (Domnau) ) in the Prawdinsk district Friedland (East Pr.) ).

Geographical location

Swobodnoje is four kilometers north of the Russian-Polish border and eleven kilometers south of the Rajons capital and former district town of Prawdinsk (Friedland) . The small town can be reached via the side street (former German Reichsstraße 142 ) in the Malinowka (Wolmen (center)) junction , which connects Prawdinsk with the no longer existing, in the border area Schirokoje (Schönbruch) and before 1945 to Bartenstein (today Polish: Bartoszyce) continued. The next train station before 1945 was Preußisch Wilten (now Russian: Snamenskoje) and was on the railway line from Königsberg (now Russian: Kaliningrad) to Heilsberg (now Polish: Lidzbark Warmiński), which is no longer in service.

The almost exclusively Protestant population of Alsnien was parish before 1945 in the parish Deutsch Wilten (Russian: Jermakowo) and belonged to the Friedland church district (today Russian: Prawdinsk), later to the Bartenstein church district (today Polish: Bartoszyce) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussians Union .
