The National Highway 142 ( R 142 ) was to 1945, a state road of the German Reich and led through the west of the province of Prussia . It ran in a wide arc from Braunsberg (now in Polish Braniewo) first east to Heilsberg (Lidzbark Warmiński), from there north to Wehlau (now in Russian Snamensk). The R 142 represented an alternative to the R 1 , which led from Braunsberg in a north-westerly arc via Königsberg (Prussia) (today Kaliningrad) to Wehlau. In its course, the R 142 connected several Reichsstrasse with the R 1: the R 126 , R 128 , R 131 , R 134 and the R 141 . The total length of the R 142 was 141 kilometers.

Today, several Polish and Russian long-distance and local roads run along the route of the former R 142. The belt of the R 142, which used to run through, is now interrupted at the Polish-Russian border in the divided village of Schönbruch (Polish part Szczurkowo, Russian part Sirokoje). In the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , the voivodship roads DW 507 , DW 512 and DW 513 and in between the DK 51 , in the Russian Oblast of Kaliningrad the P 514 replace the old R 142.
