Reichsstrasse 144
The National Highway 144 ( R 144 ) was up to 1945 a main road of the German Reich . It initially ran in a west-east direction between Marienburg (West Prussia) (now in Polish: Malbork) and Grünkrug (municipality of Groß Sehren ) near Deutsch Eylau (Iława), from 1939 onwards - due to the war - the road to Bütow in Pomerania began moved forward and the road extended to Sampława ( Samplau ) near Lubawa ( Löbau ).
With a total length of 188 kilometers, the R 144 connected the provinces of Pomerania and West Prussia and provided a connection to the Reichsstrasse R 1 , R 2 , R 78 , R 127 , R 129 and R 158 .
Today, numerous Polish state and voivodeship roads run along the route of the former R 144, which stretches from the Pomeranian Voivodeship to the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .
