As national route 353 ( R 353 ) was after the takeover in German civil administration as CdZ area Lorraine and provided also under German civil administration Alsace as in 1940 Reichsstrasse referred treated road link that of Saint-Avold (Saint Avold) in the Moselle department ( until 1918 in the Lorraine district in the realm of Alsace-Lorraine ) and branched off from the former Reichsstraße 41 , which was then extended into French territory , largely on the route of the former Route nationale 419 via Puttelange-aux-Lacs (Püttlingen) and Sarralbe (Saaralben), Sarre- Union (then Saar-Buckenheim), Ingwiller (Ingweiler), Haguenau (Hagenau) to Rountzenheim (Runzenheim), where it ended at what was then the extended Reichsstraße 9 .
