The federal highway 92 (abbreviation: B 92 ) is a German federal highway in Thuringia and Saxony . It begins on the federal motorway 4 in Gera and leads through the valley of the White Elster via Greiz , Plauen and Oelsnitz to the Czech border near Cheb . In addition to local traffic, it is also used for long-distance traffic to Plauen and the Czech Republic as part of European route 49 .

history

From 1938 to 1945 called Reichsstraße 92 (R 92), the road originally began in Böhlen near Leipzig and led via Zeitz to Gera and then in the then Sudetenland and in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia via Franzensbad , Marienbad , Haid , Bischofteinitz , Klattau , Strakonitz to Wodnian near Budweis . The Elsterberg - Schönbach section was built around 1854. During the times of the GDR, the road was called Fernverkehrsstrasse 92 (F 92) until 1990 .

Gera lower house

The federal road 92 begins in Gera at junction 59, Gera-Leumnitz of the A 4 . In the vicinity of the Leumnitz district , the Gera bypass will become part of the B 92. At the junction of the city ring, the B 2 , which is omitted in Gera, joins the B92. A few meters further, it crosses the White Elster and leads south largely parallel to the river to Weida , always remaining on the left side and a little further away from the river from Wolfsgefärth . The B 92 joins the B 175 near the Weida train station . Just before the federal highways cross the Weida , the state road L 2331 joins . The federal roads continue to the southeast and separate again near the city limits of Weida. The B 92 initially continues in a southerly direction, joins the L 1083 at Hohenölsen , bypasses Wildenaube to the west and crosses the L 1085 at Daßlitz. Via the Gommla district , the road reaches the district town of Greiz . In the Neukurtschau district , the B 92 joins the B 94 . Together they lead east towards Greiz. The two federal highways separate again on the outskirts. While the B 94 continues to the east and crosses the White Elster, the B 92 turns south and initially remains on the left side of the river. In the Rothenthal district , the federal road finally crosses the river and the L 1296 flows into the Dölau district and comes from Saxony as the S 296 state road . Shortly afterwards, the B 92 passes the state border between Thuringia and Saxony and reaches Elsterberg . The road initially follows a loop on the right-hand side that the Elster draws in the city and then crosses the river again south of the city center. The B 92 turns shortly to the west and passes the state border towards Thuringia again. Shortly afterwards the L 2342 joins and after a few meters the federal highway leaves Thuringia south again to Saxony. The road continues southwest between the Elsterberg districts of Görschnitz and Cunsdorf and again crosses the Saxon-Thuringian border. It crosses the Thuringian headland with the city of Greiz and shortly thereafter passes the border to Saxony for the last time.

Saxony

The Friedensbrücke in Plauen

The B 92 leads west past Steinsdorf and on the outskirts of Plauen the B 282 branches off to Syrau . The road leads as E 49 further southeast into the city area. Starting with the Haselbrunn district , the Plauen tram uses the same route as the main road, but running parallel to the road from the city limits to Plamag . Shortly before the upper station , the main road joins the S 297 and a little later the tram leaves the route. The federal road then leads on the Friedensbrücke over the Syra . A little later, the B 92 splits briefly due to a one-way street regulation . Before the two parts merge again, the S 297 leaves the common route and branches off to the west in the direction of Straßberg . The reunified B 92 crosses the White Elster again and crosses the B 173 near the lower station . The road leaves the city in a south-east direction via the districts of Reinsdorf and Oberlosa and reaches the Plauen-Süd junction of the A 72 . The road bypasses the Oelsnitz district of Untermarxgrün to the west and the S 311 joins near the Pirk dam . In the Raschau district , the White Elster is passed again, then the S 310 joins and the street turns east towards the city center. The S 307 branches off here before the road crosses the Elster again. The B 92 now leads southeast out of the city on the right bank of the river. The S 302 flows into the Görnitz district and after bypassing the Unterwürschnitz district of the Mühlental community to the west , the road crosses the White Elster in the Adorf district of Rebersreuth . Shortly afterwards the S 309 joins and the border to the Erzgebirge / Vogtland Nature Park is crossed. The B 283 branches off in the center of Adorf and the S 306 joins at the southern city limits before the White Elster is crossed one last time. After crossing the Bad Elster districts of Mühlhausen and Sohl , the federal road reaches Bad Brambach . To the south, the road finally leads over the districts of Hohendorf and Schönberg am Kapellenberg to the border with the Czech Republic . The continuation on the Czech side is the Silnice I / 21 .
