occupation

The Finger is a television film from the crime series Tatort . The report produced by Bayerischer Rundfunk was first broadcast on April 29, 2007 on ARD's first program.

action

Top chef Edgar Kaufmann is celebrating his 50th birthday in his gourmet restaurant “La Belle Vigne”. Among his illustrious guests are his wife Ann, the restaurant critic Burkhard Faber, his brother Norbert Faber and the public prosecutor Dr. Maier. The mood changes when Burkhard Faber lets it be known that the “Belle Vigne” will no longer be on the “list of the ten best restaurants” published by him.

The kitchen helper Simon finds a cut finger in the kitchen the next day and has his girlfriend take it to the police. The suspicion is that it belonged to the restaurant critic Burkhard Faber, who did not reappear. But since there are no further suspicions and no corpse (yet), the commissioners consider how best to proceed. A questioning of the "Maestro" Kaufmann gives no further information and Faber's housekeeper cannot find any clue as to where her employer might have gone. The investigators secure DNA traces from his bathroom, so that they are now certain that the severed finger belongs to the missing person. Nevertheless, the public prosecutor, who personally values the top chef, does not want to initiate an investigation into him. That is why Menzinger and Leitmayr persuade the hobby chef Batic to take up a temporary position in the “Belle Vigne” restaurant in order to investigate undercover there. Co-chef Ali Mourad behaves very suspiciously and Batic does not rule out that Faber was dismantled into individual parts and "processed" in the kitchen, or otherwise disposed of.

Menzinger and Leitmayr learn that Faber was a very critical and contentious restaurant tester and that he should have enemies in a great many gourmet kitchens. Norbert Faber is a manufacturer of "Fabers-Feinsten" ready meals and he was also in a dispute with his brother, because he should definitely include a higher quality Meister line in his range in cooperation with Kaufmann, which Norbert Faber refused for reasons of cost. Another suspicion falls on Ann Kaufmann. She knew that her husband was friends with Burkhard Faber and that he used to have a homosexual relationship with him, but it is possible that in time she would want to eliminate her rival.

Leitmayr can convince the public prosecutor to finally initiate an investigation against Edgar Kaufmann. Despite an extensive search of the house, nothing could be found that would indicate Burkhard Faber's whereabouts. Even a sniffer dog has to surrender after the co-chef Jaap van Haalen has scattered chili powder unnoticed . Thereupon Batic secretly looks around in the vicinity of the camp and actually finds Faber's corpse soaked in salt. Jaap van Haalen admits to having promised Frau Kaufmann to help her clear up the body. She would have called him on the night of the birthday party and asked for help. Meanwhile, however, Ann Kaufmann has disappeared.

Unexpectedly, it turns out that the Croatian woman employed by Kaufmann, Milena, stabbed Faber because he had threatened to report her to the authorities because she had no proper papers. Ann Kaufmann had helped her because it suited her well and her competitor was now eliminated. The forensic doctor has meanwhile found out that Faber did not die of the knife wounds, but that he was suffocated. Ann Kaufmann can be found and admits to having helped Faber "so that I don't have to share her husband for once in a lifetime."

criticism

“90-minute crime fodder compensates for the spoiled appetite with high tension. What remains is the realization that you don't need many excellent ingredients for a good meal and that it is enough to dose social issues such as the deportation problem like parsley and not serve as a filling potato side dish.
