Thaddäus Simon Joseph Johannes von Jarotzky (born April 27, 1858 in Neisse ; † November 16, 1938 in Dresden ) was a Prussian lieutenant general in the First World War .

Life

origin

He was the son of the later lieutenant general Thaddäus von Jarotzky (1831-1894) and his wife Agnes Thecla Babette Louise, née Kiesel.

career

Coming from the cadet corps, Jarotzky was transferred on April 15, 1875 as ensign to the 4th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 24 (Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin) of the Prussian Army in Neuruppin . There he was promoted to second lieutenant in November 1875 and in April 1886, since April 17, 1883, the regiment was named 4th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 24 (Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II of Mecklenburg-Schwerin) , promoted to prime lieutenant. As such, he was since April 28, 1891 à la suite of the regiment, which since January 27, 1889 was called the Infantry Regiment "Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II. Of Mecklenburg-Schwerin" (4th Brandenburg) No. 24 , teacher the war school Neisse and became captain there on May 5th that year . From here he was appointed company commander of the 2nd company in the Grand Ducal Mecklenburg Fusilier Regiment "Kaiser Wilhelm" No. 90 in Schwerin . In the same function he was transferred to the 4th Guards Regiment on foot in Berlin-Moabit in 1900 . Here he led the 3rd company as chief. On September 14th, he was promoted to redundant major and aggregated to the regiment . In 1901 Jarotzky was appointed battalion commander of the 1st battalion in the infantry regiment "Graf Kirchbach" (1st Lower Silesian) No. 46 in Posen . Transferred to the staff of the Grand Ducal Mecklenburg Fusilier Regiment “Kaiser Wilhelm” No. 90, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1907 . In 1910 he was commissioned by AKO to lead the infantry regiment "Lübeck" (3rd Hanseatic) No. 162 . Promoted to colonel, he was appointed commander of the regiment on March 22, 1910, the anniversary of the birthday of the heroic emperor . As the latter, on May 17, 1912, on the market square in Lübeck , he received the flag ribbons that had been lent by the Hanseatic city to the battalions of his regiment after they had been attached to the flags by the Senate.

In 1913 he was transferred to Torgau , entrusted with the leadership of the 16th Infantry Brigade and shortly thereafter promoted to major general (June 16, 1913) and commander of the brigade.

During the First World War Jarotzky commanded the brigade until August 20, 1914 and again from August 30. On October 7, 1914, he was given command of the 15th Infantry Brigade from Halle . A few days later, on November 25, 1914, he became the commander of the 25th Reserve Division as Lieutenant General . He led them first on the western and then on the eastern front , only to be relocated back to the west in early January 1916. There he gave command to his successor Paul Grünert on January 29, 1916 during the fighting in the Argonne Forest and switched to the General Staff .

As a war school teacher, Thaddäus married Helena Maria Adolphine Anna Franziska Szmula on June 21, 1893 in the village of Friedewalde near the school .
