The Beach Boys Love You is an album by the US band The Beach Boys .

Emergence

In 1977 the Beach Boys were consumed by power struggles. On the one hand there was the Wilson brothers Carl and Dennis, who wanted to make music in the style of Smile in the future . On the other hand were Mike Love and Alan Jardine , who referred to the resounding success of the hit compilations of 1975 and 1976: Endless Summer and Spirit of America landed at number 1 and 8 respectively in the top top of the US charts, 20 Golden Greats was ranked # 1 in many European countries. These hit compilations contain the greatest Beach Boys hits of the 1960s, penned by Brian Wilson . Therefore, Jardine and Love wanted to continue working with songs that sounded at least similar to the oldies. In the middle sat Brian Wilson, who did not belong to any faction. The arguments within the band went so far that one faction refused to enter the studio if someone from the other side was present.

In 1977 Brian Wilson had written many new songs and wanted to record a new album with the band. His astonishment was great when no other Beach Boy except his brother Carl Wilson showed up for the recording sessions. Alan and Mike didn't want to enter the studio, Dennis Wilson was busy recording his first solo album, Pacific Ocean Blue , but tried to attend the recording sessions as often as possible.

Since the other Beach Boys were hardly there, Brian Wilson recorded almost all of the instruments for the songs himself, sang the lead voices and produced the songs. Carl Wilson acted as mixdown producer. Dennis Wilson's hum runs through the entire album. Alan Jardine recorded the lead vocals for a song, and Mike Love is rarely heard from either. At this time he was also working on his solo album First Love , which was never released.

success

Mike Love and Alan Jardine had declared the record company Warner Bros. and Reprise Records, respectively, that they would no longer renew the expiring contract. You already had one eye on a record deal with Epic Records . Warner Bros. therefore refused to promote the album Love You .

The album Love You only came to # 53 on the US Billboard charts. However, the reviews were better than those of the previous album 15 Big Ones .
