The L Word: Generation Q is an American television series that premiered on Showtime on December 8, 2019 . It is a sequel to The L Word series , which was also produced by Showtime from 2005 to 2009. Ilene Chaiken , Kathy Greenberg and Michele Abbott, who created the series at the time, co-created the production with filmmaker Marja-Lewis Ryan .

In The L Word: Generation Q four main characters are from the original series before that are embodied by their former actresses, the absence is declared or the death of two other former main characters in the course of the first season. The production is about the personal and professional backgrounds of several women in Los Angeles , many of whom are lesbian , bisexual and transgender .

The first season of the series consists of eight episodes. In January 2020 Showtime extended the series for another ten episode season. The German-language broadcasting rights are held by Sky Atlantic HD , where the series has been shown since April 15, 2020.

The series takes place in 2019, ten years after the end of original production, with the characters Bette Porter, Shane McCutcheon and Alice Pieszecki taken from the first series. The plot focuses on the professional and private lives of the three old and several new main characters. As in the original series, these are mostly female members of the LGBT community. The location was also moved from West Hollywood to Silver Lake .

Bette is a businesswoman who has meanwhile entered politics and is running for the city's mayor's office. She has a daughter named Angie, with whom she often argues. Alice initially had her own radio show in the original series, later she was co-host of a television series and now has her own series again in the form of a television talk show and is with Nat. Shane McCutcheon, an androgynous and very promiscuous hairdresser , sells her salons in New York City and Paris at the beginning of the new series and moves back to Los Angeles, where she meets Bette and Alice, with whom she was friends at the time. She is currently in the process of divorce with Quiara. The character Jenny Schecter, whose death was a crucial plot point in the final season of the original series, is mentioned in the third episode of the first season, and it is also stated that her unexplained death was a suicide . Tina Kennard, Bette's ex-wife and another main character, appears as a minor character from the sixth episode of the first season, while in the fourth episode of the same season it turns out that the main character Kit Porter, Bette's half-sister, died of a heroin overdose .

On July 11, 2017, Showtime announced that it was planning a remake of The L Word - When Women Love Women . Filmmaker Marja Lewis-Ryan was named showrunner and executive producer on November 20 of the same year , while Ilene Chaiken , who co-created the original series, will finance the production as executive producer.

Jennifer Beals , Katherine Moennig and Leisha Hailey took over their former roles Bette Porter, Shane McCutcheon and Alice Pieszecki and also act as executive producers of the series. Sarah Shahi , who embodied the character Carmen in the first series, claimed to also play in the new production, but this was initially not confirmed by Showtime. Pam Grier announced not occur Porter in the series in their role Kit because it already for the ABC series Bless This Mess standing in front of the camera and therefore not in the filming of The L Word: Generation Q can participate. More than ten years after the unexplained death of Jenny Schecter, Bette Porter is running for the mayor's office in Los Angeles . Dani Núñez, who heads the PR department of her father's prosthesis company, offers Bette to fund her campaign, which Bette refuses because the company invests in opioids . During a press conference, Bette is accused by Tyler Adams of having an affair with his wife Felicity while she was working for her. Since Bettes reputation suffers from the accusation, she decides to comment on the new talk show of her friend Alice Pieszecki. There she also explains that she is divorced from her wife Tina, their daughter Angelica, called Angie, but spending most of the time with her. Due to the influence of her friend Jordi, she got a little on the wrong track, which puts a strain on their relationship. Meanwhile, Shane McCutcheon sells her hair salons in Paris and New York and moves back to her old friends in Los Angeles. She is married to Quiara, from whom she has been estranged for a long time. The next day, Bette goes to the local LGBT youth center to give a speech about combating homelessness. There she meets Jordi, who apologizes for her bad influence on Angie, which is why the two are allowed to spend time together and Angie gets along with her mother. Meanwhile Alice got infected from Eli, which is why Gigi takes care of both of them. Over a cup of tea, Gigi says that she cheated on Nat two years ago and that she is very happy in her relationship with Alice. Later, Nat comes home and has sex with Alice. Dani's and Sophie's celebration takes place at the same time. Their still tense relationship improves when Sophie's mother Nana and her sisters Maribel and Virginia persuade Dani. While Micah is reading a poem, Dani and Sophie reconcile, and Finley, who is also present, receives a text message from Rebecca inviting her to her home again, where the two finally become intimate. After the service, Finley explains to Rebecca that she avoided churches because of her strict Catholic childhood. They don't meet for a while, after a while Finley sits down crying in a pew, where Rebecca comforts her. Meanwhile, Shane wants to transform the bar into an LGBT bar again with Tess and Lena. Later she gets drunk in her office, where she is seduced by Lena. She claims that her relationship with Tess has been straining for a long time and that she is jealous of Shane, whereupon the two have sex. Meanwhile, Alice finds out that Nat's former friends stuck with the "cooler" Gigi after the breakup. That's why Alice mentions to Gigi that Nat misses her and that it's okay if the three of them spend time together. Meanwhile, Dani's father Rodolfo wants to reconcile with her because he reacted negatively to both her resignation and her engagement to Sophie. He offers her to take over the organization and financing of the wedding, but Sophie gets angry when she learns that Rodolfo the Banquet Hall has already booked. She is of the opinion that the luxurious country estate does not suit her and her family. Shane doesn't want a birthday party, but agrees to have a drink with them. Then she shows them the bar, which she named after Alice's late partner Dana. Later, Bette is horrified to find that she and Felicity have switched their cell phones. Dani brings Felicity her cell phone and tells her to end the affair, which Felicity refuses because she is unhappy in her marriage. At Alice's job, she and Nat are interviewed for the Los Angeles Times , after which she reluctantly agrees to Drew's suggestion that Bette's political opponent Jeff Milner be invited as a guest. Meanwhile, Dani accuses Bette of endangering the campaign with her affair. Bette explains that her half-sister Kit died of a heroin overdose and that Felicity was her emotional support during that time. Dani is unimpressed and calls on Bette again to end the affair. During Alice's interview, she asks Jeff if he is a feminist , to which he replies that Bette's affair with Felicity wasn't exactly feminist, but Alice claims that Bette cut the relationship. At Dani's home, Sophie proposes marriage to her using her great-grandmother's ring. Meanwhile, Shane smokes joints with Bette , with the former signing the divorce papers. In the evening in the bar, Shane discovers that Alice has held a party with a large number of guests. There, Bette tells Dani that she will end the affair, while Finley is encouraged by Sophie to see Rebecca and Micah's attention is on José. Finley goes to Rebecca's house drunk and tells her that she initially had concerns about their relationship, but the MCC is not a real church and Rebecca is not really a pastor, which offends Rebecca and tells Finley to leave. At the party, Micah wants to know from José how he feels about him, which leads to sex between the two. Alice, Gigi and Nat have a threesome in a back room , Dani and Sophie go home to get intimate too. Lena is rejected by Shane, after which Tess confesses that she knows about her infidelity and is angry because Lena does not want to admit this. Lena finally apologizes and Tess leaves the bar. The episode ends with Quiara's arrival, which leaves Shane scared.

Angie doesn't want Bette to come to her school play, but changes her mind for Jordi's sake, as her parents won't be there. So they go to his office, where Dani gives him the contract back. As the two sit in the car, Sophie confesses to Dani that she suspects that Rodolfo doesn't think she is good enough for his daughter, while Dani doesn't want to talk about it. José asks Micah if he loves him, but Micah claims that he prefers to keep his feelings to himself. José replies that Micah is very different from his previous partners, whereupon the two sleep together. Meanwhile, Tess discovers Finley hungover in the bar and invites her to lunch. There Tess says that she broke up with Lena and has been dry for two years. Later, in an argument, Tess demands that Shane hire Finley as a replacement because Lena has disappeared, and Shane reluctantly agrees. Finley goes to Rebecca to apologize. Rebecca tells her that she wants a relationship with someone who is self-aware, which is why Finley leaves in tears. When she arrives at the bar, she gets drunk and dances with Tess. Bette ends her relationship with Felicity for the duration of the election campaign. In her office she then comforts a crying Dani, while Sophie complains to her sister about Dani's reticence. In the bar, Tess and Finley play the drinking game Never Have I Ever and have sex. At the same time, Bette, Alice, Shane, Quiara, Nat and Gigi attended Angie's performance, which was very well received. Afterwards, Angie praises Jordi, who was in charge of the stage technology, whereby Shane notes that Angie seems to feel something for her friend. Shane and Quiara drive to the office with Angie, after passing the exam, Angie immediately goes to Jordi and asks the two of them for advice because she wants to confess her love to her friend. After Shane and Quiara tell her how they met, Angie asks Jordi if she loves her, which she answers with a kiss. When Bette wants to step in front of the reporter, her ex-wife Tina stands in front of her. She comforts Bette, who describes the events of last night to you in a relaxed state. Shortly thereafter, she quarreled because Tina accused Bette of being selfish and opinionated. Bette replies that, unlike her, Felicity attended Kit's funeral, which makes Tina sad. Pierce leaves Bettes team out of disappointment because she was a role model for him. Sophie seeks consolation from Finley because Dani has still not spoken to her. At the hospital, Finley is about to leave when Sophie holds her back and kisses her. Alice comes home and sees Nat and Gigi in bed, which is why she is staying with Shane for a few days. Bette waits in the bar for the election result while Shane rushes to the hospital, where she and Quiara learn that the latter has miscarried . Outside the bar, Finley suggests to Sophie that they forget their kiss. Eventually Jeff Milner's victory is announced. The next morning Dani suggests to Sophie that they should get married the next day in Hawaii , and she reluctantly agrees. Meanwhile Alice decides to stay true to herself and her mission. To Drew's horror, she assigns Sophie to invite the author Roxane Gay as a guest, even if that means the end of her show. In the meantime, Rodolfo is with Dani, where she asks him what he has against Sophie. He replied that it was poor and unstable, and that the relationship would not last. He then asks Dani to work for him again and inadvertently reveals that he has been working with Jeff Milner for months. Meanwhile, Quiara accuses Shane of being relieved about the miscarriage. She is abandoned by Quiara, so Shane is so depressed that she takes a stray with her that she sees on the street. In a common room, Sophie Finley announces her imminent marriage and asks her about her feelings about what leads to sexual intercourse. Then Finley goes to Rebecca. She apologizes to her and confesses her affair with Sophie. Rebecca thanks her for her insight into her actions and recommends that she take responsibility for her mistakes in small steps. Finley then returns her stolen bike and decides to fly to Missouri for her sister's wedding . At a vernissage, Micah is approached by a man who pretends to be José's husband, which is why he goes angry and does not want to talk to José later. When Angie finds Bette completely sad, she decides to take her to a canyon, where they process their grief over Kit's death and Tina's impending marriage together. A short time later, they meet the reporter Maya there, who invites Bette to dinner. On Alice's show, Nat comes on stage and tells her that she wants to be with her again, but this time without Gigi. The two then kiss, which turns into a viral video and saves Alice's show from being canceled. Dani is waiting for Sophie in the airport, Finley also makes his way to her gate. Sophie sees on the billboard that you and Finley's flight are leaving at the same time. She finally runs to a gate and stops smiling, although it remains unclear whether she will choose Dani or Finley.
