Theodor Ferdinand Stosch , since 1815 von Stosch (born June 6, 1784 in Magdeburg , † August 24, 1857 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and head of the department for the disabled in the War Ministry .

Life

Theodor Ferdinand was the son of the Berlin court preacher and senior consistorial councilor Ferdinand Stosch (born June 29, 1750 - July 1, 1821) and his wife Marianne Philippine, née Hachtmann (born September 17, 1758 - April 10, 1847).

Career

Stosch attended the Joachimsthaler Gymnasium and started studying law at the University of Halle from the end of May 1802 . In 1804 he joined the Prussian Army as an auditor of the riding artillery . In the Fourth Coalition War , Stosch took part in the Battle of Auerstedt and was appointed second lieutenant in a reserve battalion the following year . In 1809 he joined the Brandenburg Artillery Brigade as an auditor . On November 8, 1811, he was appointed auditor and judge at the General Inspectorate of the Artillery . In 1812 Stosch went to Goldberg as a district judicial officer . Here he saw the beginning of the Wars of Liberation . On March 1, 1813, he was elected company commander in the 14th Silesian Landwehr Infantry Regiment by the Goldberg district. On June 1, 1813, he was appointed adjutant to the governor of Silesia, General Gneisenau . On December 8, 1813, he became Premier Lieutenant and permanent adjutant at Gneisenau. Stosch fought in the Battle of the Katzbach and was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class for the Battle of Leipzig . After the Battle of Fère-Champenoise , Stosch received the Order of St. Anne II. Class. On December 7, 1814 he was promoted to staff captain and at the same time ordered to serve in the War Ministry. At the instigation of Gneisenau Stosch was on January 11, 1815 by King Friedrich Wilhelm III. the hereditary Prussian nobility raised .

With his promotion to captain on May 3, 1815, Stosch was again adjutant of Gneisenau. In this position he took part in the Battle of Ligny and received the Order of St. Vladimir IV Class for Belle Alliance . On October 2, 1815, he was promoted to major and joined the General Command in Koblenz as an adjutant . Here he worked under Gneisenau and his successors.

On March 30, 1824 Stosch was aggregated to the 25th Infantry Regiment and awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of the Zähringer Lion the following year. On January 20, 1826 he was appointed second in command of the fortress Koblenz and Ehrenbreitstein . Left in his position as commander, Stosch was aggregated to the 15th Infantry Regiment on October 15, 1828 . On March 30, 1830 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on March 30, 1833 with a patent from April 6, 1833 to colonel . On March 20, 1839, he was transferred to the War Ministry in Berlin as head of the Department of Disabled Persons and was promoted to major general a year later . In addition, from January 1, 1841, Stosch received a personal allowance of 400 thalers. On January 22, 1843 he was awarded the Red Eagle Order II. Class with Oak Leaves and on March 21, 1845 his allowance increased by a further 400 thalers a year. On March 27, 1847, he was promoted to lieutenant general, only to retire on April 2, 1849 at his own request with a pension of 2250 thalers.

He died in Berlin on August 24, 1857 and was buried next to his wife in the Invalidenfriedhof .

Stosch married Karoline Waltersdorf (1785–1848), divorced Kräwel, in Berlin on October 14, 1814. The couple had several children:
