Tianwa Yang

youth

Tianwa Yang is the daughter of a car mechanic and an accountant. Perhaps one would never have recognized her talent if she hadn't been admitted to the only music kindergarten in all of Beijing by chance at the age of four, a kindergarten that was the easiest to get to. There you immediately recognized her musical talent and perfect pitch . Since her parents could not provide her with a piano as recommended for financial reasons, she had to make do with a violin for which her parents had enough money. It should be a godsend, as it turned out in her early youth.

At the age of 10 she began studying the violin at the Central Music Conservatory in Beijing with the important violin soloist Lin Yao Ji (1937–2009). At Yaoji's instigation, at the age of 13, she recorded the 24 Caprices by Niccolò Paganini , which generations of violinists had fought their teeth on, on CD and was celebrated by the press as the “pride of China”. After a performance at the Beijing Music Festival in 1999 , Isaac Stern , also a world-famous violin soloist, became aware of her and invited her to the United States. It was inevitable that it then also attracted attention in Europe. In 2001 she made her debut on the “Old Continent” with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra . In 2003 she gave a solo concert with the orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera, where she shone with Prokofiev's 2nd violin concerto . Paris, Stockholm, Frankfurt and Vienna joined this concert. That year, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offered her a two-year chamber music course with Jörg-Wolfgang Jahn at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe , which she accepted that same year. In her own words, “was (she) shocked that the lessons here do not (e) work through pressure, but rather that one tries (e) as much as possible, not just to advance through diligence” .

Artistic work

As a soloist in Europe, she took part in internationally renowned orchestras at the beginning of her career. These include the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra London , the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra , the Orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera , the German Radio Philharmonie , the MDR Symphony Orchestra Leipzig, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra , the Philharmonic Orchestra Helsinki , the Orchester Philharmonique de Strasbourg , the Malmö Symphony Orchestra , the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra and the Warsaw Philharmonic . Likewise in North America u. a. With the symphony orchestras of Detroit, Seattle , Baltimore and Vancouver , she has made guest appearances in Asia with the China Philharmonic Orchestra , the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra , the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Korean Broadcast Symphony Orchestra in Seoul and in New Zealand with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra . A selection of her collaborations with internationally recognized conductors were Günther Herbig , Yoel Levi , Gerard Schwarz , Vassily Sinaisky and Marc Albrecht .

Tianwa Yang gave her calling card as a soloist in renowned concert halls such as the Berlin Philharmonic , the Gewandhaus in Leipzig , the Wigmore Hall in London, the Salle Pleyel in Paris and the Lincoln Center in New York. She has also made guest appearances at the Schwetzingen SWR Festival , the Montpellier Festival and the Ravinia Festival in Chicago.

Her preferred instrument is a violin made by the famous violin maker Guarneri del Gesù , which she got on loan from the entrepreneur, patron and violin collector Rin Kei Mei ( Singapore ).

In addition to her guest appearances, concert activities and as a lecturer at the Kassel Music Academy, Tianwa Yang also teaches as a professor at the Bern University of the Arts , where her almost accent-free German benefits her and her students.
