Top of the World is the second single from Brandy's second studio album Never Say Never . The song includes a guest appearance by rapper Ma $ e . The song was released as a single in 1998 and peaked at number two on the UK singles chart, where it became Brandy's second top 20 single. Top of the World reached number 21 in Canada, number 11 in New Zealand and number 18 in Ireland . In the United States , the song was only released as an airplay single, reaching number 44 and 4 on the associated pop and R&B airplay charts, respectively.
Music video
Paul Hunter directed the music video . The setting represents a housing estate . In the video, Brandy has superpowers , so she can fly and is particularly strong. At the beginning of the video you can see Ma $ e getting out of a car and starting to rap. After that, Brandy can be seen floating on the outside wall of a skyscraper, talking to Ma $ e on the phone and starting to sing. The next scene shows Brandy and male background dancers dancing a choreography. Next, she shimmy off a traffic light to jump on cars in traffic. Now Ma $ e meets the dancers and Brandy and raps his verse while he dances the choreography with Brandy. In the end, Brandy seems to lose her superpowers again, because although she doesn't seem to want to, Brandy falls to the ground again in the end scene.

It was the most successful Ma $ e song in Europe. It is also the only song that Ma $ e released as a single with a woman. In addition to this version, Brandy also recorded a remix called "Top of the World Part II" with Latino rappers Fat Joe and Big Pun , which also appeared on Big Pun's 2001 best-of album Endangered Species. In an episode of the fifth season of the series Moesha, the character Hakeem Campbell rapped parts of the song.

Brandy sang Top of the World at the 1998 MTV Movie Awards with Ma $ e and the 1999 remix version at the Soul Train Music Awards with Fat Joe and Big Pun from Terror Squad . During the "Never SAY Never World Tour", which began in late 1998, she sang a special solo version of Top of the World. The song is also included in the Brandy TV special, "Brandy in Concert: A Special for the Holidays," a concert in Chicago that was televised on November 20, 1999.
