Topoľovka (Hungarian Topolóka - until 1907 Topoľovka ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 807 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Humenné of, a circle kraj Prešovský heard. It is also part of the traditional Zemplín landscape .
geography
The municipality is located on the southern slope of the Low Beskydy Mountains , more precisely its lower part Ondavská vrchovina and is traversed by the Ondavka river and a small tributary on the right bank. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 157 m nm and is eight kilometers from Humenné .
Neighboring municipalities are Lieskovec in the north, Závadka in the east, Brekov in the south, Hudcovce in the south-west and west, and Tovarné and Štefanovce in the north-west.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1479 as Thopoloka and got its name after a poplar forest (Slovak topo slow = poplar). At that time it was part of the Drugeth estate of Humenné. In 1557 three portals are listed in a tax register. In the 17th century the estate came into the hands of the Szirmay family . In 1828 there were 42 houses and 387 inhabitants who lived as farmers and weavers.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 831 inhabitants lived in Topoľovka, of whom 783 were Slovaks, 13 Roma, five Russians, three Ukrainians, two each from Poles and Czechs, and one each from Moravia and Russia. 21 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity. 578 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church, 142 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, nine residents to the Orthodox Church, six residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident each to the Baha'itum and one of the Jehovah's Witnesses; one resident professed a different denomination. 16 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 77 residents was not determined.
