Ptičie (until 1927 Slovak "Pčice"; Hungarian Peticse ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 647 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Humenné of, a circle kraj Prešovský , and traditional landscape Zemplín belongs.

geography

The municipality is located on the edge of the Vihorlat Mountains below the Humenská mountain ( 445  m nm ) by the Ptavka brook ( Laborec river area ). The center of the village lies at an altitude of 226  m nm and is seven kilometers from Humenné .

To the west of the main town is the Podskalka district, which is not part of the municipality.

Neighboring municipalities are Hažín nad Cirochou in the north, Kamienka in the east, Valaškovce (military area) and Chlmec in the south, Jasenov in the west and Humenné in the north-west.

history

The oldest objects from today's municipal area are 237 Celtic-Dacian coins, which were probably minted around the middle of the 2nd century BC.

Ptičie is mentioned as a hamlet as early as 1273, but not as a village until 1451, namely as Peticse . A castle of the same name is mentioned in historical chronicles, but its location is no longer known. The village initially belonged to the Humenné estate, from the 17th to the 19th century to the Csáky family and to the middle of the 19th century Szapáry . In 1557 a total of five portals were recorded. In 1787 there were 51 houses and 435 inhabitants and in 1828 76 houses and 578 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture and in the surrounding dense forests. Many residents emigrated between 1900 and 1910, including the mother of the American actor Paul Newman .

Until 1918/1919, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Ptičie had 633 inhabitants, including 590 Slovaks, five Russians, three Ukrainians and one Croat and one Czech. 33 residents did not provide any information on the ethnic group. 532 inhabitants supported the Roman Catholic Church, 35 inhabitants joined the Greek Catholic Church, 13 inhabitants joined the Orthodox Church, three inhabitants joined the Evangelical Church AB and one inhabitant joined the Jehovah's Witnesses . Five residents were non-denominational and the denomination of 44 residents was not determined.
