Košarovce (until 1927 Slovak and "Košiarovce"; Hungarian Kosárvágása - until 1907 Kosaróc ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 623 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Humenné of, a circle kraj Prešovský heard. Rather, it is part of the traditional Zemplín landscape .
geography
The municipality is located in the southern part of the Low Beskydy Mountains , more precisely in the Ondavská vrchovina mountains , in the Oľka valley , a few kilometers east of the Veľká Domaša reservoir . The center of the village is at an altitude of 178 m nm and is 19 kilometers from Humenné .
Neighboring municipalities are Nižná Sitnica in the north, Jankovce in the northeast, Lukačovce in the southeast, Girovce in the south, Holčíkovce in the southwest, Rafajovce in the west and Ďapalovce in the northwest.
history
A find of six barrows from the Early Bronze Age shows that there was human settlement in today's municipal area.
Today's Košarovce was first mentioned in writing in 1408 as Cassorhaw and was founded as a new establishment in the northern part of Semplin County, which was sparsely populated until the 14th century. Until 1767 the village belonged to the Stropkov estate . In 1828 there were 41 houses and 300 inhabitants, who were mainly employed as carters, shepherds and lumberjacks.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
population
According to the 2011 census, 616 people lived in Košarovce, 604 of whom were Slovaks , two Russians and two Czechs as well as one Bulgarian , one German and one Ukrainian . Five residents gave no information about their ethnicity .
564 residents professed their support for the Roman Catholic Church, 32 residents for the Greek Catholic Church, two residents for the Orthodox Church and one resident for the Evangelical Church AB. Six residents were non-denominational and 11 residents had no denomination.
