Trey Lewis (actually: Joseph Lewis III ; born October 18, 1992 in Garfield Heights , Ohio ) is an American basketball player . After studying in his home country, Lewis began a professional career in the German basketball league in 2016 , where he first played for medi Bayreuth and one season later for ratiopharm Ulm. He was elected BBL All-Star for both teams and was also one of the ten best players in the “All-Second Team” of the Basketball Bundesliga 2016/17 . Nevertheless, he left Ulm prematurely in the 2017/18 BBL season and moved to the French first division promoted JL Bourg-en-Bresse. He has been under contract with the NBA Team Utah Jazz since 2018.

Career

Lewis was a successful basketball player during his school days in his hometown and hometown and received various awards in his senior year. In the election for the best school player in the state as Ohio Mr Basketball , however, he was only second behind Trey Burke , his namesake in terms of the nickname, who also stopped the triumph of Lewis' school team with his school team in the semifinals of the state championships. While Burke, who two years earlier premature something of Pennsylvania State University had given its commitment to study, then to study at the University of Michigan went, Lewis took his hand a scholarship to Penn State, where he for the high school team, the Nittany Lions in Big Ten Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) played. One year after the last participation in the finals, the Nittany Lions under the new coach Pat Chambers only achieved a negative season balance and were even only last within the Big Ten after four wins this season, whereupon they missed a postseason participation completely. Lewis, who had exposed a dozen games with a back injury, then left the Penn State already and returned to his hometown, where he downriver from the Cuyahoga River in Downtown - Cleveland studying at the Cleveland State University continued.

After changing universities, Lewis had to suspend one year of championship games according to the regulations of the NCAA before he was active in the Horizon League for the Vikings college team from 2013 . Here Lewis and his team achieved positive seasonal results, but lost the semi-finals in the championship tournament of the Horizon League both times in 2014 and 2015, whereupon they missed participation in the national NCAA finals . In the CollegeInsider.com-Tournament (CIT) they were eliminated after the second game at the latest. After Lewis had already graduated from Cleveland State in 2015, he switched as a "graduate", which saved him from another year of suspension, once again the college team and played a fourth and final year in the NCAA with the Cardinals of the University of Louisville under the renowned trainer Rick Pitino in the particularly competitive Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Here was his goal, once in his college career to take part in the "March Madness" designated NCAA finals, which the Cardinals regularly reached. But since the Cardinals basketball team were involved in a scandal over their recruitment measures, the college itself declared the team to be "ineligible" for a postseason participation shortly after the start of the season, much to Lewis' annoyance, in order to mitigate a possible punishment. Louisville achieved a season record of 23 wins, which were faced with eight losses, and within the ACC as the fourth-best team a record of twelve wins to six losses. Nationwide, they were ranked 16th best team in an Associated Press ranking. According to the self-declared ban, the Cardinals did not take part in the ACC championship tournament either.

In the NBA Draft in 2016 in his college career somewhat hapless Trey Lewis was by any team in the doped highest professional league NBA selected, but in the NBA Summer League in 2016, he played for the former NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers in which he, however, from his hometown, little was used. As a result, Lewis decided early in the summer of 2016 to start his professional career in Europe. In mid-July, he signed a contract with the German first division club BBC medi from Bayreuth . Under the new coach Raoul Korner , the Bayreuthers, led by Lewis and his compatriot and teammate in guard position Kyan Anderson , were able to improve significantly and confidently reached the play-offs of the basketball Bundesliga 2016/17 in fourth place for the first time since "Resurgence" 2010. In the first round of the quarter-finals, they had home rights against EWE Baskets Oldenburg , to which they were defeated in four games after just one win. As the only player in his team, Lewis was named one of the ten best players of the season in the "BBL All-Second Team". For the following 2017/18 season , Lewis moved to German league competitor ratiopharm from Ulm , with whom he also played internationally in the 2017/18 EuroCup . After only two wins in ten group games, the Ulm team was eliminated before the turn of the year. In January 2018, Lewis participated in the BBL All-Star Game again, as in the previous year . A month later, as hosts of the Top Four in the BBL-Pokal 2018 , the Ulm team only reached third place and threatened to miss one of the first eight play-off places in the league as last year's regular season winner, whereupon Lewis and the Ulm team at one Separation agreed and moved to the first division promoted to the French LNB Pro A 2017/18 Jeunesse laïque Basket from Bourg-en-Bresse , where, among other things, the former Frankfurt BBL player Zachery Peacock is one of his teammates.
