A Type 96 howitzer firing

In contrast to older Japanese guns, the Type 96 was designed for transport by power train. The steel spoked wheels had solid rubber tires. On the two spreader bars were devices for vehicle transport. These spreader bars gave the gun sufficient stability. Two earth spades absorbed the recoil.
