The Type 1 37-mm anti-tank gun ( Japanese 一 式 機動 三 十七 粍 速射砲 , Isshiki Kidō Sanjūnana-miri Sokushahō , German "Type 1 mobile 37-mm rapid fire gun") was an anti-tank gun (Pak), which was used by the Imperial Japanese Army was used in the Second Sino-Japanese War and during the Pacific War from 1941 to 1945. The designation type 1 indicates the year the troops were introduced, the year Kōki 2601 or 1941 according to the Gregorian calendar.
history
Until 1940, the 37 mm Type 94 anti-tank gun was the only anti-tank weapon in the Imperial Japanese Army. This turned out to be too ineffective because of its low muzzle velocity and in 1941 the Type 1 37 mm anti-tank gun was designed and delivered to the army. At 800 m / s, the Type 1 had a muzzle velocity that was 100 m / s higher and thus greater penetrating power. A total of around 2300 copies of type 1 were produced.
Like its predecessor, the Type 1 was able to destroy American M3 Stuart under favorable conditions . However , the Type 1 37 mm anti-tank gun was powerless against the M4 Sherman , and an anti-tank gun with a larger caliber and greater penetration was quickly demanded. The 47-mm anti-tank gun type 1 was introduced into the army as early as 1942 .
For lack of alternatives, the Type 1 37mm anti-tank gun remained in service until the end of World War II .

In principle, the Type 1 Pak was a further development of the Type 94 37 mm Pak. The barrel was lengthened to 1.85 m and the profile of the cannon was lowered.
