The Type 94 75 mm mountain gun ( Japanese 九四 式 山砲 , Kyūyon-shiki sampō ) was a mountain gun that was used by the Imperial Japanese Army in the Second Sino-Japanese War and during the Pacific War from 1935 to 1945. The designation Type 94 indicates the year of development, the year Kōki 2594 or 1934 according to the Gregorian calendar.
history
The Type 94 was the successor to the Type 41 75 mm mountain gun . In 1934 the design was accepted and the first of the 1,500 copies produced was delivered to the troops.
Like the Type 41, the gun could be easily and quickly dismantled into several parts and so could be transported by six pack animals into eleven parts, each with a maximum weight of approx. 90 kg . The gun was carried by soldiers in rough terrain. It had an unusually long spar , at the ends of which there were two vertically movable iron plates instead of earth spurs . If possible, these were hammered into the ground to give the gun stability when firing. The maximum range of the gun was about 8200 meters. The metal shield attached for protection was 3 mm thick. The gun could fire high-explosive, shrapnel , high-explosive armor-piercing and shaped charge shells. To give the infantry stronger artillery support, the Type 99 10 cm mountain gun was introduced in 1939 .
The Type 94 remained in service until the end of the war in 1945.
