The Type 38 15-cm Howitzer ( Japanese 三八 式 十五 糎 榴 弾 砲 , Sanhachi-shiki jūgo-senchi ryūdanhō ) was a howitzer that was used by the Imperial Japanese Army in World War I , the Second Sino-Japanese War and during the Pacific War was used from 1905 to 1945. The designation Type 38 indicates the year of development, the 38th year of the rule of Emperor Meiji or 1905 according to the Gregorian calendar.

history

The Type 38 150 mm howitzer, like the 75 mm Type 38 field gun , was developed by Krupp in 1905 and the design was sold to the Japanese Empire . There it was built under license by the Osaka Army Arsenal .

Although the Type 38 was already obsolete in the early 1930s, it was used until the end of the Pacific War. From 1944 the type was 38 howitzer on a chassis of a Type 97 Chi-Ha - tank installed; the result was the Type 4 self-propelled gun Ho-Ro .
