The U10 line of the Berlin subway was planned in the 200-kilometer plan and was intended to run as a large-profile line from Weißensee across the city via Alexanderplatz and Potsdamer Platz to Steglitz and on to Drakestrasse in Lichterfelde . The earlier line designation of the planning was "F".

history

Line "F" (in the version of July 1, 1972 then as "Line 10"), first presented in the 200-kilometer plan from 1955, was to be a large profile line from Weißensee across the city via Alexanderplatz , then via the boulevard Unter den Linden , a crossing under the U2 and a new intersection with the U6 between the city ​​center and Kochstrasse to Potsdamer Platz . From this a new crossing point between the (then) U1 between Gleisdreieck and Nollendorfplatz should be reached in order to continue to the Kleistpark underground station, which is to be expanded . From there it should lead via Innsbrucker Platz (connection of the U4 ) to Steglitz (under U9 ) and on to Drakestrasse in Lichterfelde . This ambitious plan - due to the division of the city - was never realized. However, there were and are various preliminary construction work, especially at crossing stations. The route from Alexanderplatz to Weissensee in what was then the eastern part of the city can be found in various planning documents.

Because of the numerous shell tunnels and stations, some of which are visible at the transfer stations or can occasionally be visited elsewhere as part of various events - and therefore never completely disappeared from consciousness - as well as the now hopeless completion from today's perspective, this line is sometimes also known as the “phantom line”.

After 1993, the plans for line U10 were discarded in favor of a new line U3 . This only has the Wittenbergplatz stop in common with the existing U3 . The north-eastern branch of this line between Weißensee and Potsdamer Platz coincides with the U10, then the U3 should run over Magdeburger Platz to Wittenbergplatz and be threaded into the existing line towards Uhlandstraße (today's U1 line ). This would then have to be converted from a small to a large profile. The southwest branch of the former U10 was given up for this; Among other things, the parallel route to the S-Bahn line S1 spoke against him .

The plans for the construction of the U3 or U10 line had repeatedly become very specific, but ultimately did not materialize. Therefore, there is a lot of preliminary construction work today .

  • During the construction of the platforms of today's U5 line in the Alexanderplatz (Al) station , two outer track troughs were built for the Weißenseer line in order to later enable transfers at the same level as the platform. Today, tracks have been laid in the troughs, some of which are used to park trains and for underground convertible trips. At the end of the 1960s, when Alexanderplatz was redesigned, the two tunnel nozzles in the direction of Weissensee were each supplemented by a shield chamber in order to enable two single-track tunnels to be driven quickly using the shield driving method. However, these plans later failed due to financial possibilities. Including the adjoining tunnel nozzles in both directions, the structure on Line F has lengths of 650 meters (in the direction of Weißensee) and 575 meters (in the direction of Potsdamer Platz).
  • In the course of the renovation of the Mühlendamm Bridge from 1936, a 95-meter-long tunnel section was implemented as a storage building partly below the Spree bed. When, after the reunification of Berlin, the plans to build a subway became more concrete again, a shield drive was planned in the area of ​​the Fischerinsel , which is why the now useless Mühlendamm tunnel was backfilled in 1997.
  • Between 1967 and 1969, a 90-meter-long section of the lower platform (Ktu) was built at the Kleistpark (Kto) station during the construction of the overhead platform of the U7 line . The right-angled station section of the U10 is connected to the U7 by a cross of stairs. There is also direct access to the distribution level.
  • During the construction of an acute angle to the train ring running tunnels of the city highway for passing under the Innsbruck square was U4 of the reciprocal of the tracks in the station Eisackstraße south Innsbruck space (Ip) separately. At the same time, the platform for the U10 line (Ipu) was built below the city ​​motorway . A generous distribution level is planned for the transfer traffic between the underground lines and the S-Bahn. In order to avoid a renewed interception of the ring line tracks, a shell tunnel was built south of the lower station below the track system. The station and tunnel of the U10 are 200 meters long.
  • During the construction of the extension of the U9 line from Walther-Schreiber-Platz to Steglitz Town Hall between 1968 and 1974, a joint structure was built to accommodate the U10 line, which was planned at a later date. Due to the limited space under Schloßstraße, the two underground lines had to be run in a two-storey tunnel. While in the final stage the V-shaped train stations at the branching points would only allow uncomfortable transfers, at the two-storey underground station Schloßstraße (Slu and Slo) it would be possible to transfer in the same direction as the platform . Since the tunnel behind the Rathaus Steglitz (Rzo) station had no sweeping system for turning the trains, the U9 line has been swiveling between the Walther-Schreiber-Platz (Wsg) and Schloßstraße stations for the U10 line since it started operating provided tracks to the terminus Rathaus Steglitz (Rzu) in order to use the sweeping system on Fronhoferstraße. In the originally planned extension of the U9 to Lankwitz , the line was supposed to change to its actual route, which has been completed in the shell as far as the S-Bahn station Rathaus Steglitz. Between Schloßstraße and Rathaus Steglitz you drive accordingly on the tracks of the planned but never realized U10. The completed structure of line F (shown in gray in the picture) has a total length of 1536 meters including the sweeping and parking facility in Fronhoferstrasse.
  • In the course of the new construction of the Potsdamer Platz regional train station, which opened in May 2006, the platform for the U3 line was also built. The side platforms separate the S-Bahn passerelle in an east-west direction. The connection is ensured via the lower-lying passerelle of the regional train station (shown in dark gray in the picture). At the western end of the northern platform, a direct transition to the also planned tram in the course of Potsdamer Straße has been structurally prepared. The former planning approval section extends to the eastern end of Leipziger Platz, where an underpass of the U2 line is planned. This part was not carried out. Overall, the completed construction section is 392 meters long. The shell tunnel is occasionally used for event purposes.
  • With the start of work on the closure of the gap U5 since 2010 from Alexanderplatz station to station Brandenburger Tor is with the subway station Red Town Hall built another interchange conceptually into two levels. The lower level is intended for the U10 line or, according to current planning, for the U3. Since the construction of the U3 is not expected in the foreseeable future, this level will initially be used as a four-track storage facility for trains on the U5. A possible conversion to a later train station with side platforms will be considered structurally.

Another planning variant

Before the political turning point , the idea of continuing the U10 line from the Neue Nationalgalerie to the north: under the relief road along the Brandenburg Gate / Reichstag to Lehrter Stadtbahnhof , further along Lehrter Strasse to the level of Fennstrasse ( Schering ). This planning ended here, but it would be nonsense not to extend this route to the U6 line . Wedding station could have been a connecting station . A connection of the northern stretch of the U6 line with the U10 line to a continuous line from Tegel to Steglitz (- Lichterfelde ) would certainly be possible . The southern section of the U6 line would then have ended at Kochstrasse station for the then completely unpredictable time of the city ​​division .
