The underground station Bahnhof Deutz / Messe is a station of the Cologne Stadtbahn that was opened in 1983 in the Cologne-Deutz district in the immediate vicinity of the Cologne Messe / Deutz train station , which is one of the 21 stations in the highest price class 1 of DB Station & Service .
It is served by lines 1, 3, 4 and 9 of the Kölner Verkehrs-Betriebe (KVB) and has a total of four tracks (two above ground for high-floor lines 3 and 4 and two underground for low-floor lines 1 and 9) on four side platforms.
investment
The station is located in the Cologne-Deutz district in the immediate vicinity of the Lanxess Arena .
It has a linking level between the above-ground and underground station parts, which is connected by a pedestrian tunnel to the Cologne Messe / Deutz train station and the south entrance of the koelnmesse .
The above-ground side platforms of lines 3 and 4 are designed as high-floor platforms, the underground platforms of lines 1 and 9 as low-floor platforms. The subway station is still tiled in different shades of orange, some of which have already been removed and are to be replaced by new ones.
The underground station is located under Opladener Straße at the intersection of Justinianstraße and Deutz-Mülheimer-Straße. It is located at the eastern end of the elevated platforms of the Köln Messe / Deutz station and is connected to the eastern connecting tunnel. The station building , on the other hand, cannot be reached directly as it is located in the area of the underground platforms at the western end of the elevated platforms.
To the east of the underground station there is a parking facility, from where reinforcement courses on lines 1 and 9 are often used, e.g. B. at major events of the koelnmesse or Lanxess Arena .
Construction work
During the construction of the Kalker Tunnel, it was planned that the above-ground tram lines 3 and 4 could later also be laid underground at this point. For this purpose, another, independent underground station was built under the lines 1 and 9, rotated 90 degrees. The entrances to this underground station are now closed by billboards.
