U Don't Know Me (Like U Used To)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

U Don't Know Me (Like U Used To) is a song by the American R&B singer Brandy . It was written by Brandy himself, the song producer Rodney Jerkins and the songwriters Isaac Phillips, Paris Davis and Sean Bryant. The track was released in September 1999 as the fifth single from the 1998 album Never Say Never . The original album version of the song was recorded in late 1997; A remix version was re-sung in July 1999 with rap parts by rappers Da Brat and Shaunta.

Music video

Two music videos were shot for the single "U Don't Know Me (Like U Used To)". One each for the remix and the album version. Successful German director Martin Weisz (who shot videos for KoЯn , Nickelback , Puff Daddy , Sisqó , Meat Loaf and Daughtry , among others ) directed both Matrix- inspired videos.

publication

Due to the continued success of the album Never Say Never, which has meanwhile been awarded five platinum awards, the title was launched as the fifth "full" single (including music video and international release). Furthermore, a remix produced by Darkchild was put together to promote the extended play "U Don't Know Me (Like U Used To) - The Remix EP". In addition, the CD of the single was pressed in different versions. The CDs in Oceania contained the Bryan Adams cover (Everything I Do) I Do It For You , in Germany title track "Never Say Never", in the United States "U Don't Know Me (Like U Used To) Part II" featuring Da Brat & Shaunta as B-Side . Despite various TV appearances to advertise the single and two music videos, "U Don't Know Me (Like U Used To)" was a commercial flop. Because while all of the previous singles were worldwide top ten or top twenty singles, "U Don't Know Me (Like Used To)" only achieved top positions of 50th place in Canada and 79th place in the USA. Only in New Zealand can we speak of a hit (number 28 in the singles charts). However, the single there benefited from the popularity of the B-side "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)".
