United (English for: "United") is the joint studio album of nine of the ten finalists of the first season of the casting show Deutschland sucht den Superstar from 2003. Like the single, the album was released under the artist name Deutschland sucht den Superstar . No addition to this name was made in order to give the show its own discography through subsequent seasons.

background

Due to the great success of the first season and the number one hit We Have a Dream , jury member Dieter Bohlen wrote and produced eleven more songs for an album. Except for We Have a Dream , Judith Lefeber and Daniel Lopes , who RTL forbidden from participating in the album because of his already started solo career, are not represented on it. The candidate Nicole Süßmilch sings in place of Lefebers .

The album was a huge commercial success and was number one in the German album charts for six weeks . It is also the most successful album of 2003 - the same applies to the singles for We Have a Dream . In 2003 the album was awarded 11 × Gold in Germany for over 1.1 million units sold, making United one of the best-selling music albums in Germany since 1975.

We have a dream

We Have a Dream was the finalist anthem for the first season. The song was number one in the German single charts for six weeks and was released on December 23, 2002. Each finalist sings small solo parts there during the two verses. The chorus will be sung by the choir of all finalists. Nicole Süßmilch , who only took part in the motto shows after Judith Lefeber left , is not involved .

Similarities to other titles

Some of the tracks featured on the album are cover versions or at least partially show clear similarities to other songs, especially to earlier productions by Dieter Bohlen.

The theme song We Have a Dream is a cover of composed by Dieter Bohlen Schlagers Together geh'n of Tony Wegas which thus for Austria at the Euro Vision Song Contest 1992 took part. A similar chorus melody also appears in the song Auf Wiedersehen! by Al Martino , who published it on his album The Voice to Your Heart (1993) produced by Dieter Bohlen . The title God Gave Love to You is a cover version of the title of the same name sung by Bonnie Tyler from the album Angel Heart (1992) produced by Dieter Bohlen .

How Can We Mend Your Lonely Heart is similar to the Backstreet Boys title How Did I Fall in Love with You from the album Black & Blue (2000) and Today, Tonight, Tomorrow the Modern Talking title No Face No Name No Number of the album Year of the Dragon (2000).

Two similar-sounding tracks of the same name were previously released on albums by Dieter Bohlen's band Blue System : It's All Over interpreted by Dionne Warwick and Dieter Bohlen on the album Déjà vu (1991) and Freedom on the album Body to Body (1996). The latter title also shows similarities in the chorus to the song Children of the charity music project Hand in Hand for Children (with the Backstreet Boys , Boyzone , Captain Jack , Culture Beat , DJ BoBo , Fun Factory , Masterboy , Mr. President and Rednex ) the year 1996.

In February 2003, Stefan Raab also pointed out the similarities between the titles on United and the other songs written and produced by Bohlen in three programs on his show TV total by playing two similar titles to the audience in succession or in parallel. Raab then provided the album with two "seals of approval" ( Green Dot , Blue Angel ) and imagined Bohlen awarded the " Renate Künast Medal for exemplary song recycling".
