history
The place Peißen was first mentioned in 1157 in a deed of donation to the Petersberg monastery near Halle (Saale) . The Prussian-Anhalt border ran through today's town of Peißen until 1945.
Oberpeißen belonged to the Duchy of Anhalt-Bernburg . After the Bernburg line died out, Oberpeißen was assigned to the district of Bernburg in the Duchy of Anhalt in 1863 , which became the Free State of Anhalt in 1918 .
Under Peißen was in the Saale district of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg , the 1680 Duchy of Magdeburg under Prussian-Brandenburg came domination. The jurisdiction lay with the Lords of Krosigk zu Poplitz . During the French occupation of the Saalkreis, Unterpeißen belonged to the Saale department in the Kingdom of Westphalia from 1807 to 1813 . The place was assigned to the canton of Cönnern in the Halle district . During the political reorganization of Prussia after the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Unterpeißen was attached to the Merseburg administrative district of the Prussian province of Saxony in 1816 and assigned to the Saalkreis.
During the first district reform in the GDR , Unterpeißen moved to the Bernburg district in 1950. At the same time, on July 1, 1950, the merger of Ober- and Unterpeißen to form the municipality of Peißen took place. With the second district reform in 1952, Peißen was incorporated into the Bernburg district in the Halle district, which was renamed the Halle district in 1990 and merged with the Salzlandkreis in 2007.
From January 1, 2005, the municipality of Peißen belonged to the administrative community of Nienburg (Saale) . On January 1, 2010, the previously independent community was incorporated into the town of Bernburg (Saale) together with the communities of Baalberge , Biendorf , Gröna , Poley , Preußlitz and Wohlsdorf .
On September 11, 2011, Peißen was hit by a severe storm with a hurricane and hailstones the size of tennis balls . Around 200 houses were damaged.

In the village there are two natural landmarks in abandoned clay pits; the Peißen amphibian reserve and sanctuaries for endangered fish .
