Velletri (wine)
Velletri is an Italian white and red wine from the metropolitan city of Rome in the Lazio region with a controlled designation of origin ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC). The denomination has existed since 1972 and was last updated in 2014. Pliny the Elder already reported on viticulture in this region.
Cultivation
The city of Velletri gives the wine its name. In addition to Velletri, the wine can be grown in the municipality of Lariano and in parts of Cisterna di Latina .

The following grape variety regulations exist :
Velletri Bianco
- A maximum of 70% Malvasia Bianca di Candia and Malvasia del Lazio (also called Malvasia Puntinata here)
- At least 30% Trebbiano (toscano, verde and Trebbiano Giallo )
- A maximum of 20% of other white grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Lazio region may be added.
The wine is served in the flavors secco (dry) with a residual sugar content of max. 4 g / l, amabile (sweet) with a residual sugar content of 4.01 to 20 g / l and dolce (sweet) from 20 g / l. There is also a small amount of sparkling wine .
Velletri Rosso
- 10-45% Sangiovese
- 30-50% Montepulciano
- At least 10% Cesanese Comune and / or Cesanese di Affile
- A maximum of 30% other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Lazio region may be added.
The wine is offered in the flavors secco (dry) with a residual sweetness of a maximum of 4 g / l and amabile (sweet) with a residual sweetness of a maximum of 20 g / l.
