The name is often used in the Slavonic language area and means here "faith, confidence, trust". He is one of the three names named after the Christian virtues (see also Lyubow and Nadeschda ). All three are translations of the Greek names Πίστις Pístis ("faith", Latin fides ), Ἐλπίς Elpís ("hope", Latin spes ) and Ἀγάπη Agápē ("love", Latin caritas ), the mother of the legendary saint was Σοφία Sophía ("wisdom", Latin sapientia ). Vera also exists in Latin with the meaning "true" or "the true". The masculine form Verus is documented as a name in ancient times.
An important occurrence of the name in the Indo-European language area shows its original meaning here. Examples can be found in the Albanian language . Vera, silly . ( verë, vera ) means "summer".
