Viktor Schlatter

Viktor Schlatter (born February 19, 1899 in St. Gallen ; † 1973 ) was a Swiss organist and organ expert.

Life

Viktor Schlatter studied at the Berlin University of Music as a student of Walter Fischer (1871–1931). He then completed an organ building internship in Hanover with a study visit to Paris. From 1924 to 1926 he worked as an organist in St. Gallen. Between 1926 and 1970 Schlatter was the organist at Zurich's Grossmünster .

Viktor Schlatter is one of the experts in Swiss organ building in the 20th century. With the help of his reports, many old organs were restored or newly built organs were arranged . He was largely responsible for the new construction of the main organ in the Grossmünster, which was placed under federal monument protection after its completion in 1960.

Schlatter wrote a series of articles for the magazine “Der Organist”. The main focus of his contributions was on organ building issues.
