The Teuschnitz office was an administrative area of ​​the Bamberg bishopric , a direct imperial territory in the Holy Roman Empire . The Bamberg Monastery, which was assigned to the Franconian Empire , was a clerical principality that existed until 1802.

geography

The Teuschnitz office in the northeast of the Hochstift was the northernmost Bamberg office. Its neighboring offices in Bamberg were the Kronach office in the west and south and the Nordhalben office in the southeast. To the north of the Teuschnitz office was the Lauenstein office belonging to the Principality of Bayreuth and to the northeast of it the Principality of Saalfeld and the County of Reuss-Ebersdorf .

history

Until 1388 the area of ​​the Teuschnitz office had been under the rule of noblemen directly from the empire , then it passed into the possession of the Bamberg bishopric through purchase. Just like the neighboring Bamberg office of Kronach , it was upgraded to an upper office around the middle of the 18th century.

structure

The administration of the Teuschnitz office consisted of an Oberamt , a Vogteiamt , a tax office and a Centamt . The trunk formed a bailiff , also known as urban, administrative and cents judge acted. In personal union, he also performed the duties of bailiff and castner of Rothenkirchen . The official staff then included a tax collector, a servant and mayor in twelve localities in the district. The administrative seat of the office was in Teuschnitz. The official building used for this purpose was demolished in 1844 after a fire in the town, and today the town hall is located in its place.

Bailiwick Office

The Teuschnitz Bailiwick was one of the 54  bailiwick offices of the Bamberg bishopric. Its bailiwick district comprised the following village markings and localities:

• The villages Buchbach ,, Förtschendorf ,, Haßlach bei Teuschnitz ,, Hirschfeld , Kehlbach , Marienroth , Rappoltengrün , Reichenbach , Steinbach am Wald Tschirn , Wickendorf , and Windheim , (all with exercise of village and community authority )
• The city of Teuschnitz and the two wastelands Rauschenberg and Rauschenhof . (with exercise of vogtei- and manorial rights)

Centamt

The Centamt Teuschnitz was one of the 29  Centamts of the Hochstift Bamberg. Its high court district included the entire bailiwick district of the Teuschnitz office and the city ​​of Teuschnitz , which was a mediate of this office. In addition, the area of ​​the Hochstiftischen administration Rothenkirchen was in this judicial district.

Tax office

The Teuschnitz Tax Office was one of the 46  tax offices of the Bamberg Monastery. In addition to the Bamberg Chamber Fiefs, his area of ​​responsibility also included the possessions of the town of Teuschnitz.

The economic importance of the office for the bishopric of Bamberg was below average and was therefore listed as Amt II class (out of 5). The tax revenues of the tax office averaged 2200 during the term of office of Peter Philipp von Dernbach (1672–1683) and 1682 Franconian guilders per year during the term of office of Marquard Sebastian Schenk von Stauffenberg (1683–1693) .
