As a free live director, he was among other things for the worldwide transfer of the football World Cup final of 2002 and all the chancellor duels responsible since its inception of 2002. The Hamburger Abendblatt described Weicker's work: "He captures situations with which he seems to burst the picture frame without cutting himself to death."

In 2002 he received the Adolf-Grimme-Preis Spezial together with Peter Kloeppel for his achievements as a live director, especially for the picture direction at RTL aktuell on September 11, 2001 . The reason stated: “... on September 11th [...] Weicker puts an event and its moderator in relation - and he finds the right unit of measurement. Drama without dramatization, closeness without voyeurism, the means of staging are used very sparingly. Television all about terror, beyond terror television. "

Weicker has been Professor of Live Direction at the Art Academy for Media in Cologne since 2001 . He lives with his wife and son in Darmstadt.
