Until December 31, 2011, Vuibroye was a municipality in the Lavaux-Oron district of the canton of Vaud in Switzerland . On January 1, 2012, she merged with Oron .

geography

Vuibroye lies at 637  m above sea level. M. , one and a half kilometers west of Oron-la-Ville and 14 kilometers east-northeast of the canton capital Lausanne (linear distance ). The scattered settlement community extends in the Haute-Broye, slightly elevated on the western slope of the Broye , in the eastern edge of the Vaud Central Plateau .

The area of ​​the 1.4 km² former municipal area includes a section on the upper reaches of the Broye. The area is bounded in the east by the Broye and its right side stream Grenet , in the south by the main road which connects Oron-la-Ville with Essertes. From the Broye valley low, the former municipal soil extends westwards up the gently sloping slope of Vuibroye to the adjacent Molasse heights , where at Chantemerle at 720  m above sea level. M. the highest point of the former municipality is reached. In 1997, 6% of the former municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 10% for forests and woodlands and 84% for agriculture.

The hamlet of Crépillau ( 622  m above sea level ) in the Broyetal and numerous individual farms belong to Vuibroye .

With 128 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011), Vuibroye is one of the smallest former municipalities in the canton of Vaud. 85.8% of the residents are French-speaking, 11.7% English-speaking and 1.7% German-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Vuibroye was 120 in 1900. After that, a decrease to 66 inhabitants was recorded due to steady emigration until 1980; since then the population has increased significantly again.

Vuibroye was predominantly an agricultural village until the second half of the 20th century . Even today, have agriculture and livestock an important role in the employment structure of the population. Outside the primary sector there are very few jobs in the village. In the past few decades, Vuibroye has also developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 516 under the name Wibra . Numerous other names appeared later: Vibris (in the 10th century), Valbroia , Valbruia , Vaubroia and Walbroia (in the 12th century), Walbroie (1213) and Wobrui (1273). The place name means Val de la Broye (Broyetal). It is also possible that the old name Vibris merged with Broye .

Since the High Middle Ages , Vuibroye belonged to the estate of the Saint-Maurice Abbey and later to the Oron domain. A noble family de Vuibroye is mentioned in the 12th century. After the conquest of the Vaud by Bern, Vuibroye came to the Bernese bailiwick of Oron in 1557 . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , the village belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic , which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Oron district. Vuibroye does not have its own church; it belongs to the parish of Oron-Châtillens.
