Walter Sofka

Walter Sofka (born November 20, 1906 in Vienna , † 2000 in Linz ) was an Austrian actor and director .

Life

Walter Sofka was born as the son of the director Leopold Sofka and his wife Karoline. After studying the philosophy he received training at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He gained his first stage experience from 1926 at the Volkstheater in Vienna and at theaters in Bielitz and Salzburg . This was followed by appearances at the municipal theaters in Graz from 1935 to 1939, from 1939 to 1941 at the Residenz Theater in Wiesbaden and from 1941 to 1943 at the Mellini Theater in Hanover . After 1945 he had engagements at various Viennese theaters (including the Renaissance theater and theater in the Josefstadt ), the city ​​theater in Baden and, in later years, at the regional theater in Linz .

In 1955 he was seen as Melville at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Alexandre Dumas Kean (arranged by Jean-Paul Sartre ) . In 1970 Walter Sofka directed Ludwig Anzengruber's folk play The Perjury Farmer at the Baden City Theater in addition to playing the main role of Matthias Ferner . In 1971, an appearance in Henrik Ibsen's play Ein Volksfeind (An enemy of the people) at the Landestheater Linz was recorded.

Walter Sofka also worked in several film and television productions . Among them were the entertainment film Ein tolles Früchtchen by Franz Antel with Bully Buhlan , Fritz Eckhardt and Hans Holt in 1953 and the television adaptation of Eugene O'Neill's Der Strohhalm in 1964, directed by Gerhard Klingenberg with Brigitte Grothum , Klausjürgen Wussow and Alexander Golling . In 1982 he appeared again in a feature film . In Hirnbrennen by Leopold Huber , he played alongside Peter Clös , Enzi Fuchs and Gerhard Dorfer .
