Waltraut Haas
Waltraut Haas , also Waltraud Haas and Waltraute Haas-Strahl (born June 9, 1927 in Vienna ), is an Austrian actress and singer . She achieved great fame through her appearances in homeland and music films such as Der Hofrat Geiger and Im Weißen Rößl .
Life
The daughter of elementary school teacher Walther Haas and his wife Stefanie, née Klager, lost their father at the age of five. Her mother ran a restaurant in Schönbrunn Palace , so Haas grew up in the palace complex. During the war she attended a fashion school, which she completed with a journeyman's examination. After the end of the war, she took acting lessons from the castle actress Julia Janssen and studied music at the Vienna Conservatory . She made her debut at the Landestheater Linz ; from 1948 she played at the Renaissance theater and other Viennese theaters. In 1949 she appeared together with Peter Alexander in Ludwig Schmidseder's operetta Farewell Waltz at the Vienna Citizens' Theater .
She experienced her breakthrough as a film actress with the role of the young Wachau girl Mariandl Mühlhuber in the home film Der Hofrat Geiger (1947). In the remake Mariandl (1961) and the sequel Mariandls Heimkehr (1962) she embodied the mother, as well as at the 2005 Wachau Festival, in which her husband played and directed the councilor. He was also supposed to direct in Vienna's Gloria Theater , but died before that. In September 2011 the play had its premiere with her son as a director, and Haas plays the foster grandma.
Haas was particularly popular in the 1950s and 1960s when she starred in numerous musical entertainment and operetta films, including as Rößlwirtin Im Weißen Rößl (1960) with Peter Alexander as Leopold. In the 1960s she returned to the stage more often. She has been writing fairy tale books since 1990.
Waltraut Haas was engaged to the cyclist Hugo Koblet in 1953 and was married to the actor Erwin Strahl (1929–2011) on July 28, 1966 . Director Franz Antel filmed the church marriage on July 30th in Sankt Gilgen during the shooting of the production 00Sex on Lake Wolfgang , but according to the agreement, he did not use the wedding scene for film purposes. Their son is the theater director and actor Marcus Strahl (born July 2, 1968).
In 2008 the artist was honored for her long-standing and outstanding services to theater, film and art at the suggestion of artistic director Prof. Dr. Hans Pischner and Kammersänger Heiko Reissig appointed full honorary member of the European Cultural Workshop (EKW) in Berlin.
Together with Kurt Elsasser , she recorded the duet This happiness on her 70th stage anniversary in 2016 .
