Warren Stanley Rychel (born May 12, 1967 in Strathroy , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach and official who worked for the Chicago Blackhawks , Los Angeles Kings , Toronto Maple Leafs , Colorado Avalanche and Mighty Ducks between 1992 and 1999 of Anaheim was active in the National Hockey League in the position of left winger . Since summer 20119 he has been the head coach of the OHL club Barrie Colts . His son Kerby Rychel is also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Warren Rychel was not selected by a franchise like most players in an entry draft , instead he received a direct contract offer from the Chicago Blackhawks in 1987 . For the Blackhawks, the attacker completed only five games in five years, most of the time he spent with Chicago's farm teams Saginaw Hawks and Indianapolis Ice in the International Hockey League . In July 1991 he was transferred to the Winnipeg Jets , for which he never played. After another swap to the Minnesota North Stars , the striker signed a contract with the Los Angeles Kings at the beginning of the 1992/93 season .
In Los Angeles Rychel became a regular player, he completed 157 games for the Californians . During the 1994/95 season he was sent by the Kings to the Washington Capitals and from these to the Toronto Maple Leafs within a day , for which he completed only 26 missions. He completed the following season at the Colorado Avalanche and won the Stanley Cup with the team . After this season he moved to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim . On March 24, 1998 he was transferred from the Mighty Ducks back to the Avalanche, where he played 36 more games before he announced his retirement from active sport at the end of the 1998/99 NHL season . The Enforcer completed a total of 406 NHL games, including 1422 penalty minutes.
From 2006 to 2019, Warren Rychel was Vice President and General Manager of the Windsor Spitfires , a Canadian ice hockey team from the Ontario Hockey League . In 2009 he was named OHL Executive of the Year by the league . Since summer 2019 he has been the head coach of league rival Barrie Colts .
