history

The place was first mentioned in 1007 as "Vvaldrichesbach" in the deed of foundation of the Bamberg diocese . The place name is derived from the same name of the water, the defining word of which is the personal name Waldrīch . The place originally belonged to the Forchheim royal estate and was given to the diocese by Emperor Heinrich II . In 1040 it fell back to the empire, and in 1062 it was finally returned to the diocese. In 1336 the Neunkirchen am Brand monastery was wealthy in the village. In 1441 they had to sell their claims to the bishopric of Bamberg due to financial hardship. In 1774 there were 16 properties in the village. The landlords were Brandenburg-Bayreuth (4 estates), the imperial city of Nuremberg ( Spitalamt : 3 estates; Landesalmosenamt: 2 estates), Horneck zu Thurn (2 estates) and the lords of Egloffstein (2 estates ). The place was in the Fraisch district of the Brandenburg-Bayreuth Oberamt Baiersdorf .

As part of the community edict (early 19th century) Wellerstadt was assigned to the Baiersdorf tax district . In 1818 the rural community Wellerstadt was formed. In administration and jurisdiction, it was subordinate to the Erlangen Regional Court and in the financial administration to the Erlangen Rent Office (from 1920 Erlangen Tax Office ). From 1862, Wellerstadt was administered by the Erlangen District Office (renamed the Erlangen District in 1938 ). The jurisdiction remained until 1879 the District Court Erlangen, from 1880 at the district court Erlangen . The municipality had an area of 1.697 km².

On April 1, 1971, Wellerstadt was incorporated into Baiersdorf as part of the regional reform .
