The World Heritage Roman Monuments, Cathedral and Church of Our Lady in Trier denote a number of Roman and medieval cultural monuments in Trier and in the neighboring municipality of Igel , which were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1986 . That in the year 16 BC Trier, founded as Augusta Treverorum in the 4th century BC, impresses with the large number of Roman buildings preserved in good quality. The Christian successor buildings built on the Roman foundations in the Middle Ages were also included in the list.
On October 1st, 2009 a 100 euro gold coin with the motif “UNESCO World Heritage - Roman Monuments, Cathedral and Church of Our Lady in Trier” was issued.
