Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig Fürchtegott von Bonin (born November 14, 1824 in Cologne , † October 11, 1885 in Dresden ) was a Prussian officer , most recently a lieutenant general .

Life

Wilhelm was the son of the later Prussian general of the infantry and war minister Eduard von Bonin .

After graduating from high school in Berlin, Bonin joined the 1st Guards Regiment on Foot of the Prussian Army as a fusilier on July 27, 1841 , was appointed Portepeef Ensign in January 1842 and promoted to Second Lieutenant on July 21, 1842 . As such, he was commanded from April 1845 to the end of July 1848 to the school department of the Infantry Training Battalion. From March 22, 1849 he served as his father's adjutant , who at that time held the supreme command in Schleswig-Holstein, and subsequently took part in the siege of Fredericia and the battles at Kolding , Atzboell, Gravenstein and Gudsoe during the war against Denmark part.

While being promoted to Prime Lieutenant , Bonin was transferred to the 6th Jäger Battalion in Breslau on July 13, 1852 , and to the 5th Jäger Battalion in Düsseldorf the following year . There he was promoted to captain on June 13, 1857 and appointed company commander on December 7, 1858 . On February 23, 1861 he was transferred to the 4th Magdeburg Infantry Regiment No. 67 in Quedlinburg , serving as an adjutant at the General Command of the VII Army Corps . Left in this position, Bonin was transferred to Fusilier Regiment No. 40 in Trier on December 18, 1862 and promoted to major on March 17, 1863 . For the duration of the mobile relationship, Bonin was commanded from December 15, 1863 to the mobile general command in Schleswig-Holstein. Here he fought again against Denmark and was involved in the storming of the Düppeler Schanzen and the battles near Missunde, Wielhoi and Rackebüll. After the armistice, Bonin was appointed commander of the fusilier battalion in the 2nd Silesian Grenadier Regiment No. 11 in Flensburg on June 9, 1864 .

Bonin commanded his fusiliers during the German War, first in the battle of Langensalza against the Hanoverians and then against Austria during the Main Campaign . Promoted to lieutenant colonel on December 31, 1866 , Bonin was appointed commander of the 1st Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 31 in Erfurt on July 14, 1870 and was promoted to colonel shortly afterwards on July 26 . Bonin fought with the regiment during the Franco-Prussian War near Beaumont , was awarded the Iron Cross II class for Sedan and participated in the siege of Paris and the battles at Pierrefitte and Epinay. Even before the end of the war, he was awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class on April 8, 1871.

On February 14, 1874, Bonin was placed à la suite of the regiment and appointed commander of the 55th Infantry Brigade in Karlsruhe , where he was promoted to major general on May 2, 1874 .
