Wilhelm Anton Ritter and Edler von Poschinger (born April 27, 1864 in Munich , † November 11, 1921 in Deggendorf ) was a Bavarian major general .

Life

family

Poschinger was the son of the landowner at  Landau adIsar Anton Wilhelm Ritter von Poschinger . In 1888 he married Emma Edle von Poschinger, daughter of the glassworks and landlord of Buchenau Ferdinand II. Ritter von Poschinger, with whom he had two children.

Military career

Poschinger graduated from the cadet corps in Munich and joined the 2nd Heavy Rider Regiment of the Bavarian Army in 1883 as Portepeefähnrich . After attending military school , Poschinger was promoted to lieutenant in mid-August 1885 . As such, he acted as a regimental adjutant from 1892. From 1896 to 1899 Poschinger graduated from the War Academy , which pronounced him the qualification for the higher adjutantage and the teaching subject and secondarily for the general staff. He was promoted to first lieutenant and was then adjutant of the 4th Cavalry Brigade in Bamberg . In March 1900 Poschinger was promoted to Rittmeister and two years later he was squadron chief in the 1st Uhlan regiment "Kaiser Wilhelm II., King of Prussia" . In 1905 Poschinger came as an adjutant to the General Command of III. Army corps to Nuremberg . In this capacity he was promoted to major in June 1907 and as such Poschinger was commissioned in 1910 with the command of the 7th Chevaulegers regiment "Prince Alfons" . The following year he was appointed regimental commander and promoted to lieutenant colonel in May 1912 .

After the outbreak of World War I , Poschinger initially led his regiment in the border battles and the Battle of Lorraine . This was followed by fighting on the Meuse Heights until mid-June 1915. In the meantime promoted to colonel , Poschinger surrendered his regiment and took over the 4th Cavalry Brigade on the Eastern Front . In the Baltic States he took part in the battles near Schaulen , Kupischki , Dünaburg and Wilna . From October 1915 was Poschingerstraße in position battles between Krewo- Smorgon - Naratschsee -Tweretsch. This was followed by skirmishes on the Stochod and around Kovel . The Allied Austrians honored his behavior at the Battle of Kovel by being awarded the Military Merit Cross, 2nd class, with war decorations. From November 1916 his brigade was again engaged in trench warfare on the upper Styr- Stochod and in April 1917 took part in the conquest of the bridgehead near Toboly. Poschinger was promoted to major general on April 17, 1917 and by King Ludwig III. awarded the Military Merit Order II. Class with Swords.

After the armistice on the Eastern Front and the failed peace negotiations, Poschinger took part in the occupation of Ukraine from mid-February 1918 . From August 18 to September 24, 1918 he acted as commander of the 9th Landwehr Infantry Brigade , with which Poschinger worked in the occupation of Livonia and Estonia . He was then appointed commander of the 2nd Landwehr Division and transferred to the Western Front in mid-October 1918 to secure Lorraine . After the end of the war , Poschinger returned home with his large association and was put up for disposal after the demobilization in 1919 .
