Zac Rinaldo (born June 15, 1990 in Mississauga , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player . Since September 2019 he has been playing for the Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League in the position of right winger and is also playing in their farm team, the Stockton Heat , in the American Hockey League .
Career
Zac Rinaldo was from the 2007/08 season on the regular squad of the Ontario Hockey League club Mississauga St. Michael's Majors , where he quickly distinguished himself by his body - hugging game. In the 2008 NHL Entry Draft , the Canadian was selected in the sixth round in a total of 178th position by the Philadelphia Flyers . After a total of 107 games for the St. Michael's Majors, Rinaldo was transferred to the London Knights on January 6, 2009 in exchange for Kale Kerbashian . The winger completed 56 games in the regular season of the 2008/09 OHL season , receiving 201 penalty minutes; more than any other player in the OHL.
On August 11, 2009, Zac Rinaldo signed an entry-level contract with the Flyers. After 34 games for the Knights in the 2009/10 season , the striker was transferred to the Barrie Colts on January 9, 2010 in exchange for Chris DeSousa . Rinaldo ended the 2009/10 season with a total of 255 penalty minutes and was thus the most frequently punished player in the Ontario Hockey League as in the previous season. In the 2010/11 season of the American Hockey League , the player was a permanent member of Philadelphia's farm team Adirondack Phantoms . Rinaldo set a team record at the end of the season with 331 penalty minutes; across the league, only Pierre-Luc Létourneau-Leblond had a higher number of 334 penalty minutes this season . After the end of the regular AHL season, he was appointed for two NHL play-off games in the squad of the Philadelphia Flyers.
After five appearances for the Flyers early in the 2011/12 NHL season , Rinaldo was sent back to the Phantoms. The winger made four appearances for Philadelphia's AHL farm team before being called back to the NHL squad. As a result, Rinaldo earned a regular place in the squad of the Philadelphia Flyers. In the NHL, too, Zac Rinaldo remained true to his tough style of play and collected 232 penalty minutes in the 66 games he played in the regular season. This made him the second most punished player in the National Hockey League behind Derek Dorsett . In addition, he received 48 penalty minutes in five play-off games. In addition, Rinaldo was suspended from the league for two games in his rookie season in the NHL on February 13, 2012 after an illegal check against Jonathan Ericsson .
In June 2015, the Flyers handed him over to the Boston Bruins , who in turn transferred a third-round vote for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft to Philadelphia. For Boston, the attacker only appeared regularly in the NHL in the 2015/16 season and finally joined the Arizona Coyotes as a free agent in July 2017 . In the same way, Rinaldo joined the Nashville Predators in July 2018 and the Calgary Flames in September 2019 .
