Água Formosa is a village in the municipality of the Vila de Rei district of the same name , in the Centro Region . It is 10 km from the geographical center of Portugal . Less than 100 people live here.
It is known for its slate architecture and has been part of the newly created project of Aldeias do Xisto , an association of historical slate villages , since 2001 . Since then, the emigration has been slowed down and a number of restaurants and tourism rural businesses have sprung up here. The quiet location in the midst of almost untouched nature, with forest areas and watercourses, are the main attractions for those seeking relaxation in the small village.
There are river baths nearby. Old water mills and olive oil presses can be visited, and footpaths lead through the wooded area.
