Figueira ( Portuguese for: fig tree) is a Portuguese village in the municipality ( Freguesia ) of Sobreira Formosa , in the district ( concelho ) of Proença-a-Nova .

Figueira is 2 km south of Sobreira Formosa, about 10 km east of the district town of Proença-a-Nova, and about 40 km west of the district capital Castelo Branco .

Culture and sights

The village is one of the traditional slate villages in the region, and belongs to the route of the nationally advertised Aldeias do Xisto . It is characterized by the fact that it has been preserved. Marked hiking trails through the unspoiled natural surroundings are created, and close lying river pool Praia Fluvial da Froia .

One of the shops (port .: Lojas ) of the Aldeias do Xisto has been set up in the village , and the Casa da Ti'Augusta is a restaurant and a hostel run by the rural tourism company. There are occasional performances in the house, such as a concert by Rob Brown and Daniel Levin on November 14, 2012 as part of the jazz festival Ciclo de Jazz das Aldeias do Xisto .
