Sobral de São Miguel is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Covilhã . 418 inhabitants live in it (as of June 30, 2011).
history
The first mention of the place comes from a register of the year 1284. Until 1888 the place belonged to Casegas , in order to form an independent municipality since then. At the initiative of the residents, the place previously known as Sobral de Casegas was officially renamed Sobral de São Miguel in 1970 .
Culture and sights
With its slate constructions, the place officially belongs to the route of the traditional slate villages of the region, the Aldeias do Xisto . Hiking trails connect the places that are made accessible to tourists , especially through the facilities of the rural tourism.
The main church Igreja Paroquial de Sobral de São Miguel (also Igreja de São Miguel ) is one of its listed buildings .
