Álvaro is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Oleiros . 237 inhabitants live in it (as of June 30, 2011). The place belongs to the traditional slate villages, the Aldeias do Xisto .

geography

The place is about 12 kilometers north of the district town Oleiros on a hill overgrown with olive trees on the left bank of the Zêzere .

history

Between his town charter ( Foral ) received by King Manuel I in 1514 and the administrative reform in 1836, Álvaro was the seat of an independent district to which the communities of Álvaro, Amieira , Madeirã and Sobral belonged.

The place is one of the traditional slate villages of the region and has been part of the internationally advertised route of the Aldeias do Xisto since 2001 .
