Aldeia das Dez is a parish ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Oliveira do Hospital . 531 inhabitants live in it (as of June 30, 2011).

geography

Aldeia dos Dez is about 500 meters above sea level in the Serra do Açor (Eng .: Habichts Mountains), a promontory of the Serra da Estrela . It is 25 km from the northern district town of Oliveira do Hospital, and about 65 km from the western district capital Coimbra .

history

Excavated remains of a hill fort (port .: castro) prove a Celtiberian settlement before the Romans arrived here.

In 1543 the municipality of Aldeia das Dez was created, which also included Piódão (today one of the historic Aldeias Históricas de Portugal ). In 1594 the community was dissolved again and assigned to Avô . In 1603 (other information 1602) the community regained its independent community status, which still exists today.

Until the opening of the county road in 1899, the place remained largely isolated.
