Aleutians West Census Area

The Aleutians West Census Area is a census area in the US state of Alaska . It includes the western Aleutian islands from Attu in the west to Unalaska in the east and the Pribilof Islands north of the Aleutians .

In 2010, 5561 people lived in Aleutians West, which is part of the Unorganized Borough and therefore has no administrative headquarters. The census area has an area of ​​36,562 km², of which 11,388 km² is land and 25,174 km² is water. The largest city in the region is Unalaska .

The Census Area was formed on October 23, 1987.

The Church of the Holy Ascension has had the status of a National Historic Landmark since April 1970 .

15 structures and sites in the Census Area are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of April 28, 2020), including the Attu Battlefield and US Army and Navy Airfields on Attu , the Anangula Archeological District , the Church of the Holy Ascension and seven other National Historic Landmark status .
