List of Austrian education ministers
The Minister of Education (currently: Minister of Education ) is the Federal Minister responsible for school education in the first and second Republic of Austria (as Minister of Education ); In the course of the history of this function designation, however, many other areas of art, culture and science have been part of the departmental agendas.
From 1848 on the kk minister was responsible for cult (religious affairs) and for teaching, from 1867 for Cisleithanien , the Austrian half of Austria-Hungary .
From the republican German-Austrian state government Renner I , which was appointed on October 30, 1918, religious matters were no longer mentioned in the respective designation of the department.
For decades, affairs of art and culture were part of the Ministry of Education, and responsibility has changed several times since the 1970s. One of the reforms of the Kreisky I federal government , which took office in 1970, was the appointment of a separate minister responsible for science for the first time on July 26, 1970 ; the department was merged with the Ministry of Economic Affairs in 2013/14 ( Federal Government Faymann II ).
Foreign culture has been part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1973 , which entrusts the cultural institutes and cultural attachées as diplomats.
From 1919 to 1923 the office of education minister was connected with that of the interior minister , 1984-1994 with that of the sports minister and 2000-2007 with that of the science minister . The current name of the department has been the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research since 2018 .
