List of Austrian environment ministers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list shows the federal ministers responsible for environmental protection and related issues in the Second Republic of Austria .

The portfolio has been around since 1972, when it was created by Bruno Kreisky in response to the increasingly important environmental concerns. The ministerial post was initially run as environment minister and part of the health ministry, since 1987 as environment minister and part of the family ministry . Under Franz Vranitzky there was a short-term pure environment ministry in 1995/96, then the previous form was reverted to. As of 2000, the office was named Minister for Environment and Water Management by Wolfgang Schüssel - due to the importance that the Water Framework Directive 2000/60 / EC attaches to this sector in the EU - and is part of the Ministry of Agriculture. Since the first Sebastian Kurz government (2018), the environmental department has been called Sustainability , and is managed together with the Ministry of Tourism.
