Świerznica (German Zwirnitz ) is a village in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship in the powiat Świdwiński . It is 16 kilometers south of Białogard ( Belgard ) and belongs to the rural municipality of Rąbino ( Great Rambin ).

history

In 1930, numerous urns and clay vessels were found in the Zwirnitz Feldmark, which indicate a prehistoric burial site. According to old documents, the estate and farming village was given to the Hechthausen and Zozenow families as a so-called divided fiefdom . The owners of the two fiefs have changed constantly throughout history. In 1855 Gottlieb Radoll acquired the entire estate. The last owner before 1945 was Paul Weber.

In 1928 the Vorwerk Strutzmin , which previously belonged to Bolkow (now in Polish: Bolkowo ), was integrated into the municipality of Zwirnitz. The population had dropped to 198 in 1939, compared to 211 in 1865.

Until 1945, Zwirnitz belonged to the Belgard district . The farmers in the village lived from growing potatoes and raising livestock. In the village there was a watermill, a forge and a grocery store with an inn. Zwirnitz was isolated from the thoroughfare. It was 4 kilometers to the Groß Rambin railway station (Reichsbahn line Berlin - Stettin - Köslin - Danzig - Königsberg ).

The last town mayor before 1945 was Reinhold Manzke. Zwirnitz belonged to the district of Ballenberg ( Biała Góra ) and the registry office district of Arnhausen ( Lipie ). The last incumbents were Georg Gebhardt or Walter Frank and Hans-Ulrich Pretzell. The district court district was Bad Polzin ( Połczyn-Zdrój ).

In the first days of March 1945 the Red Army occupied the village without a fight. Zwirnitz came to Poland and is today as Świerznica a part of the rural community Rąbino in the Powiat Świdwiński .

church

Zwirnitz had its own church: a simple half-timbered building, repaired in 1870, it once served as a house chapel for the von Wolde family.

The parish Zwirnitz was until 1945 a filial community within the network of parish Arnhausen ( Lipie ) and was part of the church district Belgard ( ecclesiastical province of Pomerania ) of the Evangelical Church of the Old Prussian Union . In 1940 the small rural community had 210 members. The last pastor was Egbert Zieger.

Today Świerznica is a village in the Parafia ( Parochie ) Koszalin ( Köslin ) of the Kościół Ewangelicko-Augsburski (Luterański) w Polsce ( Evangelical Church of the Augsburg (Lutheran) Confession in Poland ).

school

As early as 1860, Zwirnitz had its own village school, which was run in one class. The last headmaster was Georg Gebhardt.
